Animal ID: SkippyYellow Nape Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi everyone, I am Skippy. I am an older Yellow Naped Amazon parrot - no one knows for sure how old I am but my new Veterinarian says I could be as much as 45 years old. She also thinks I am a girl even though I am listed as a boy. I really don't care, because I am awesome either way! I have only been in my foster home for a short period of time and am getting used to the environment. I was not on a very good diet for most of my life, so my foster Mom is introducing me to the good stuff like healthy pellets and chop. My poor diet has caused some health issues that should clear up with my new diet. I have an extensive vocabulary; however, I ... (Read More)have been holding back from my foster family and not saying a lot unless I am the only one in the room, then I talk up a storm! I also talk my own language a lot when I am conversing with the pretty bird in the mirror. I like that bird very much and would sit on top of my cage all day and have conversations with her. I like my toys and now that I have a larger cage (thanks to YOUR donations!!) I can get more! I will step up for someone that I trust, but right now I am being a little shy. Did I mention that I am a good passenger in a car and will even ask if we are going to work? Would you give me a forever home? Even though I am an older bird, I promise I can still entertain you and love you for many years to come! Interested in adoption?     Hello there! My name is Zazu and I am a 1.5 year old, gorgeous peach faced lovebird. When I came to Florida Parrot Rescue, I had a really bad eye infection, but thanks to the wonderful FPR veterinarians, that is all behind me now! My foster Dad has me eating a great diet of quality pellets, fresh vegetables, and some fruits. I am not too crazy about nuts, but I do really love birdie bread and of course millet. Dad is working with me on liking this chop stuff, but I am sure I will come along eventually. I love baths and playing with my toys, especially the ones I can destroy like the little dinosaur I am! Previously, I had been with one family my whole life, but now I am looking to start fresh, so I hope you will consider coming to meet me. Let me tell you a little about myself - I grew up around Moluccan Cockatoos, so I make a lot of sounds that you would normally associate with an M2. Animal ID: JourneyBlue & Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive

Hi. My name is Journey and I am an approximately 15 yr old blue and gold macaw. They call me a boy but the doctor hasn't confirmed it. My foster mom gave me this name because I didn't have a name prior to coming here. I also never came out of my cage. Don't worry though; life isn't too shabby nowadays. I try to talk and am learning that being vocal isn't a bad thing but a way of expressing myself. I eat healthy nuts and am in the final stages of a full conversion from seed to pelleted diet. I am still a little uneasy with interacting with people but as you can see by my photos my foster mom is working on it because the world is a big and ... (Read More)scary place outside of my cage! I am also learning how to play with toys because I love shredding newspaper on the bottom of my cage! My foster mom bought me a shred ball and I love it! I am OK with dogs being around - I am curious of them. I seem to like my foster mom over my foster dad but only by a little. I am working on being handled by humans as they haven't really interacted with me that much in my life, but I get lots of almonds and fruit for doing it so I am learning to gently take it from hands while in my cage because my cage is my safe place. I am pretty quiet for a macaw but come near my house and I will scream to let my family know! No need for an industrial alarm here! I am not the bird for someone who doesn't have big parrot experience as I have not been interacted with a lot until recently. With patience and love my foster mom already sees the great potential I have bottled up inside...I'm just scared. Will you take me in as one of your own? Interested in adoption?     Hi! My name is Zekie, and I am a 37-year old Congo African Grey. I'm the perfect companion bird as I'm easy-going and entertaining. I mimic cats, dogs, squeaky doors, and just about everything. I can also ring like a telephone. I love to play with my toys inside my cage and on the play top. I step up for both men and women after we get to know each other briefly. In fact, I prefer shoulders much to my foster folks chagrin. I eat Zupreem pellets and not too much else right now, but my foster parronts are working on that as they say I need to have a balanced diet including vegetables, some fruits, and healthy nuts (remember no peanuts for ...     Hello! My name is Bay-bee and I am an 11 year old Goffins Cockatoo. I had to come to Florida Parrot Rescue because my owners were very sick and could no longer care for me. I miss them, but I am also looking forward to becoming part of a new family. I love to dance and will bop my head along with you when music is playing - my foster family says I am quite the entertainer! I also like to find lose feathers, balance them on my back, and then stuff them back into my wings again, all while standing on one foot! I don't mind being around other animals, but please just be careful and do not allow other animals to have physical contact with me ... (Read More)as I am fragile. I was picking at my feathers a bit before I came into rescue, but I have calmed down some with that. I LOVE to have my head scratched and really love getting lots of attention and affection from my human companions - I will even sit with you while you watch TV. I was in my old home with a Moluccan Cockatoo named Peaches who, while we are not bonded, I do get along with very well, so if you are looking for two birds, please check him out - he is also very sweet!     Hello, my name is Pepper and I am a 12 year old female African Senegal Parrot. I came into foster care because my mom had to have surgery and could not care for me anymore. I love to have my head scritched but I am picky about who I allow to scratch it - I have to give you the sign first. I love being in the center of the action but can also sit on the sidelines and watch. I am very quiet and only give an alert call when I sense danger outside or someone turns the shower on. I do not talk, although I used to until my mom brought home more birds and did not give me all her attention. My foster family has two small dogs and I have learned to ... (Read More)be comfortable around them, although the best family would be one with no other pets. I really like being spoiled and I love most fruit and my pellets, and of course my millet and almonds. I eat really well although I do not necessarily like my vegetables, so maybe I am like a spoiled child, but my foster dad says he is going to work on that with me.     Hi everyone, I'm Lucky the Nanday conure! I have that name because I am really Lucky to be alive as I came out of a really dangerous situation. My foster family says that I'm a very good boy. I love to chat with you while hanging out on your shoulder. And I'm usually pretty quiet for a Nanday, but I just HAVE to alert you when an animal or new person comes into the room. I am a little cage aggressive, but I'm learning people are way more fun than that boring cage! Did I mention I'm good with kids? I also love to eat of course and I am on this great diet of pellets, lots of fresh vegetables, some fruits, and healthy nuts (remember, no ... (Read More)peanuts for parrots!).     Hello! My name is Sonya and my best friend is Lucian. We are a bonded pair of very young lovebirds (about 6-8 months old) who must be adopted together. We have been converted to a healthy diet which includes pellets, lots of veggies, some fruits, and healthy nuts - and we LOVE chop! We love to explore things and we also love to chew on our toys. We are still a little afraid of fingers, but are slowly progressing. Our foster mom is working with us to try to get us to perch on her finger, it is just going to take some time. We are also learning what it means to come out of our cage for free time and where our play area is. We would really ... (Read More)love to have a family of our own, please come meet us very soon!     Hello! My name is Ziggy and I'm a fairly young Quaker parrot. I am splay legged, which means that my legs stick straight out and I cannot perch like other birds, but I don't let that get me down! I still climb with my beak and feet, but I much prefer to spend my time at the bottom of my cage where I tear up toys, shred my newspaper, and make you laugh at my antics. Since I do spend a lot of time there, you have to make sure you keep my cage extra clean! I absolutely love to eat and will talk and grumble to my food! I will even purr like a cat to let you know when I am happy. Oh, and I can meow crystal clear too. Please come and meet me soon - I am waiting to become part of your family!     Hello! My name is Abigail - or Abby for short - and I am a gorgeous 8 year old Umbrella cockatoo. My foster Mom says I am something called an escape artist and of course I do also like to chew on things - I am a cockatoo, after all!!! I LOVE to chew on household stuff if you are not careful, so you have to make sure to keep an eye on me at all times and to make sure you provide me with LOTS and LOTS of chewing/wooden toys. I am also really outgoing - a social butterfly if you will! (Read More)depends on who you are - you will have to meet me to find out if we get along ;) I should not be in a home with young children though. If I do choose you as a friend, then I like to love on you all the time - I love cuddling and I love swinging from your hand, but watch out about over-bonding with me - if I get too bonded to one person I might not be nice to other people in the home, so please make sure you know how to handle positive reinforcement with cockatoos so this does not happen if I come to live with you. Of course I am also very vocal (again, I am a cockatoo!), so this is another reason you should know all about how to use positive reinforcement. I sometimes mumble as well and I like to say 'I love you, Abigail', 'hi' and some other things my foster family has not quite figured out yet. My foster Mom is also trying to get me to try new foods, I sort of like those pellets, but I will keep working on that part, she say's I am picky - whatever, Mom!     Hello! I am Ike, a 7-year-old male peach-front conure. I am new to my foster home but it didn't take me very long to decide I liked my foster family. My favorite thing to do it sit on a tall glass of ice water on the kitchen counter and help with dishes. I even talk conure-jargon to the ice cubes. I think I was supposed to be a fish because I also love talking showers with my foster mommy. I also give kisses once I trust you. I do step up, but I do not like it when my foster folks try to touch me or scratch my head. I prefer to sit with them and be near them in the same room, on my own terms. I tend to get a little nippy when I get ... (Read More)overwhelmed and want to be left alone - so you have to learn to watch my cues. I spend the majority of the day out of the cage which I really love!. At night time, when I start to get tired I put myself to sleep by crawling into my sleeping hut. I sleep until 8am the next morning. I am not a noisy bird but will alert you when someone or another animal is outside. I was primarily on a diet that consisted of seeds, but my foster mommy has been feeding me a healthier diet of pellets and fresh fruits and veggies. I may be slightly protective of my cage, but my foster mommy has been working with me and it seems to be getting better. My previous owner and new foster mommy both have busy homes and I am used to children, dogs, and cats. I am a wonderful little sweet guy that loves companionship. Please come meet me very soon! We are constantly chattering and interacting with each other and are a very ... (Read More)lively and happy group.     Howdy everyone, my name is Birdie! I am an 8 year old male Moluccan cockatoo. My favorite things include head scritches, peas and carrots, and spending time with humans as much as I possibly can. In fact, if I could sit on your shoulder all day, every day, that would be just fine by me! I can tell you what a 'good boy' I am, laugh at a good joke, and I'll even flatter you with a whistle when you are looking good (or not good - I don't judge!). I'm often told that I'm 'just the sweetest thing' - whatever that means! When my sister passed away, I started picking at my neck. I don't pay much attention to that area when I'm entertained, but I ... (Read More)do pick when I'm bored or lonely. I sure do need lots of attention!     Hello! My name is Benny and I am a young Severe Macaw. My foster Mom says I am very acrobatic, I love to hang upside down and to walk around the house looking for you. It does take me a while to warm up to new people, but once I do, then I want to be with you all the time! I do eat very healthy now including pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthy nuts. I do like seed and my foster Mommy is having a hard time getting me to give that last little bit up - but she is such a sucker for me so this may take a while. I am still getting used to taking showers, I am not so sure about that part - I guess it feels good, I just need a little ... (Read More)more time with it. I do also love watermelon and almonds in the shell! I strongly prefer women and I do not care for children. I love going outside on a screened in porch where my foster mom supervises me so I can get sunlight - this makes my feathers real pretty. I do also like hanging out on the top of my cage as well and sometimes I will whistle for you, but I am generally pretty quiet. I really hope that you will come and meet me soon - just don't be offended if I am a little stand-offish at first, give me time and I will come around! Interested in adoption?     My name is Harold and I am an 8 year old Severe Macaw. I am a good bird who strongly prefers men. I would do best with a single male or at least a male as my primary caregiver. I am a great talker and my foster parents are still finding out new things I say every day. I eat a variety of food well but my foster Dad is working on converting me to a healthy diet of pellets, vegetables and fruits and by the way, I LOVE nuts as treats - only healthy nuts though like pistachios and almonds - no peanuts!     Hello! My name is Peaches and my foster Mom says I am the sweetest bird she has ever met! I am a 16 year old Moluccan Cockatoo and I came into foster care because my parronts were very sick and no longer able to care for me. I do miss them, but am also looking forward to finding a new family who can give me all of the love and attention that I deserve! I step up willingly and I love to sit by your shoulder or on your chest and give snuggles. I like to lay my head down and wait for you to scritch my favorite spots! I also like to clean fingernails and my foster family says I am super gentle when I do that. I do have two toenails that are ... (Read More)malformed, but I doubt you will notice. I did used to chew my feathers some in my previous home, but I have begun to stop that behavior and will continue to work on it with my foster family. I love foraging toys and I also love being the center of attention - hey, I am a Moluccan after all! I also like to talk and can say Peaches is a pretty girl, pretty bird, Chappy, and I can even wolf whistle! I also like to make the kissy sound when I want a kiss from you. I love being around kids, they provide me with lots of enjoyment and the action and entertainment I crave. I have even become a mascot for my foster brothers baseball team (don't worry - my foster family is very careful with me when we go outside and when around children and sports). Just so you know, I was in my old home with a Goffin Cockatoo named Baybee whom, while we are not bonded, I do get along with very well, so if you are looking for two birds, please check him out - he is also very sweet!     Hello! My name is Blue and I am a gorgeous 24 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. I came to Florida Parrot Rescue from a family where I was a one-person companion, but my owner passed away. I had been with my 'one family' my whole life from the time I was a hand-fed baby with no feathers to now, 24 years later. I miss my Mom - but her constant love over the years made me the confident, beautiful, and majestic parrot you see now. Sometimes I do lunge and may bite people I do not know, but that is something I am working on with my FPR foster family - I just need to be able to trust you is all! In general, I am very mild tempered and usually not ... (Read More)very vocal. I used to lays eggs frequently, but since coming into foster care I have not laid any at all, which is a good thing - these FPR folks know what they are doing and they know how to avoid chronic egg laying which could be dangerous for my health. My new foster Mom is currently working on adding pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy nuts to my daily diet. I am used to eating peanut butter, cooked pasta, and pizza crust....but my foster mom said she is not going to spoil me with junk food, so we have to work on that healthy food thing she keeps talking about. My foster Mom says I am a very loving parrot, so please consider coming to meet me, all I want is to be back in a real home with new parronts to be loved once again by my very own family! Animal ID: GigieHanh's Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

My name is Gigie, I am a 14 year old Hahn's Macaw. I am very calm for a Hahn's, although I will let you know when you need to spend time with me. I am quiet when there is a lot going on but, when it's time for some one on one time, I really come out of my shell. I can say step up, hello, yeah yeah, and good girl, and I love to laugh at everything funny. My foster Dad says that my vocabulary is expanding every day! I get very excited when my family comes home, they must say hello first. I don't bite but I do need to get to know you. I plucked all my feathers out before coming into foster, but my foster family told me my feathers were pretty, ... (Read More)so I am trying to let them grow back. I will eat almost anything, but I love my chop for dinner - if there was a such thing as a fat bird, I am one. I love spending time with my foster brother and sister and I talk to them (they are young children). Other animals don't bother me, they just act funny and I watch. I have become more and more friendly since being in rescue although I prefer men, but women are OK, too. I do like to cuddle with my foster Mom and give her kisses (but my foster Dad said that took a lot of time and work). I will be a great companion to anyone who can spend time with me. Please come and meet me soon and let's see if you would like to make me part of your family Interested in adoption? Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello my name is Luck and I am a fully feathered 6 year old pint sized Blue and Gold Macaw. Since I was a wee little guy of 1 year old, I have lived in a home with A LOT of other birds. I did not mind the other birds because my mom and Dad were GREAT and they gave us so much love and attention. Something recently changed though and they could not take care of us anymore, so we came to Florida Parrot Rescue - and now I am looking for a new person to love me! I overheard my foster family commenting how easy I am to live with! I am just a happy guy that likes to hang out on my rope or on my cage. I like to step up from behind and I have never ... (Read More)screamed or even talked very loud. I make little contentment gurgles when I can just hang out in the same room with you. I REALLY like getting a spray bottle bath or a simple misting everyday! To show you how much I enjoy it I will spread my wings and wag my tail like a happy dog! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: SunnyBlue Front Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello, my name is Sunny. I am in my early 20's and I am a beautiful blue front amazon. My Mom had to go live in a nursing home and I was boarded at a veterinarian hospital for a really long time before the people at Florida Parrot Rescue heard about me and came to get me. I was in a cage for so long by myself that people - especially women - make me very nervous. I really want to be loved on by you, but I am sometimes a little afraid, and I really need someone who understands this and is willing to spend a lot of time gaining my trust and helping me to come out of my shell. I have recently taken to coming out of my cage and walking around ... (Read More)on the floor, which I really like, and I am finally starting to let people give me some head scritches - those are really nice and I like them, but please go slow! I do like to talk some, I can say 'Hello' and 'I love you'. I would really love to have a home of my own where my companions are quiet, understanding, and patient. Could that be you? Animal ID: SnickersQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Well Hello - glad to see you are reading about me. My name is Snickers and my foster Mommy said I am as nutty as the candy bar, although she has told me that maybe I should have been named Sneaky as I've learned to open some of my cage doors. Was she surprised the one day when she came to check on me and I was on top of my cage!! Thought I had one over on her but she got smarter!! Dang!! When I first came to live with my foster parronts I was only used to eating a seed diet - but WOW there is a lot of delicious food out there that my foster Mommy has started to feed me. I love bananas and that 'chop stuff' she gives me as well as carrots ... (Read More)and some new thing called pellets. And boy the treats I get are yummy. I'm still a little cage aggressive but that comes with my breed. When I first came to my foster Mommy I didn't know what it was like to have my head scratched and petted - I didn't like it at first but now I sure look forward to it. I still won't step up to leave my cage so my foster Mommy will stand there and do these nice scratches and petting while I sit on top of my cage. She is patiently working with me on that 'step up' thing but I'm a little bit stubborn. She told me that with time, love, and patience I will get the knack of it and enjoy sitting on someones hand or shoulder. If I happen to fly from my cage and my foster Mommy has to pick me up to put me back, I do hang out on her shoulder for a bit. I heard her tell my foster Daddy that I am getting better at this. I like to listen to music and I also say a few words - like 'pretty pretty bird' 'what's up' and 'watch out' and I know in time I will say a lot more. Ya see, we quakers are very smart and playful birds. I didn't have any toys before I came here and at first I was a little afraid of them, but now - look out - I can destroy a toy in record time! My foster Mommy just keeps replacing them - she doesn't want me to get bored. I like when she talks to me and we bounce our heads up and down together. She sure does look funny doing this - I think I have her trained!!! I also love baths - my foster Mommy went and got this special tub thing, but I like to just take my daily bath in my large water dish. Wait till you see how far I can get the water to splash!!! Hope you plan on meeting me real soon cuz my foster Mommy said I will make the family who adopts me real happy. How about us sharing our happiness? Interested in adoption? Animal ID: PicassoLesser Sulphur Crested (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Picasso. I am a gorgeous 20 year old Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. I am playful, mischievous, and entertaining! I love to learn and show off - I can even unlock cage doors! I am also an indiscriminate lover - if you are willing to give the time, I am willing to give it right back! I do need someone that has a lot of time to give me though, because - as most cockatoos, I am very demanding of your time and attention. I did used to pluck but stopped about 10 years ago. I do have this very little bare patch down in the front of my belly, but I have learned how to groom myself to cover it up so it is not very obvious (my ... (Read More)foster Mom calls it a birdy comb over, lol!). I also like to talk, I can say 'Good morning, Picasso', 'Picasso is being a good boy?' and 'Baby'. I know how to say more, but I am trying to wait to meet my new family to show them everything that I can do and say! I am a very good eater, it is one of my favorite things to do. I love vegetables, pellets and fruit and chop is REALLY good! I am a cockatoo though and I can sometimes be a little noisy, my foster Mom is working really hard to help me with when that is appropriate and when it is not, and also to help me be a little less anxious when she is out of my range of vision - but I will not be able to live in an apartment or condo, so please make sure you have a place where I can be a bit loud when I need to be.     Hello! My name is Betsy and I am 12 years old. I came into the world on September 4 2001 and I can live to be about 35-40 years old or more, so I am just a young thing with lots of life left. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat. I will try any food you give me although I do not like it all. My foster mom introduced me to chop and it's very yummy! She also let me find out about fruits, nuts, and some other great stuff that ekkies like me need in our diet - we do have a specialized diet, ya know? I like to take showers and will spread my wings. I am obviously very confident in my looks because as you can see, I am a nudist - but I hope to find a family ...     Hello! Our names are Indee, Susie-Q, and Silver Bell. We are a trio of bonded female parakeets each about 1 year of age who must be adopted together. Indee is white with turquoise markings, Susie-Q is green and yellow, and Silver Bell (that's me!) is dark blue and gray. Our foster Mom keeps trying to get us to eat these things called pellets along with our normal seed mix, we aren't so sure about those, but she keeps trying! She is also giving us all of these green foods which are great and she has sprouted some seeds for us as well, which we hear is the healthy way to have seeds as part of your diet. Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello there! My name is Luigi and I am a quaker parrot. When I came into my foster home, I immediately took to pellets - SO much better than those seeds I had been eating. I also really love chop, bird bread, almonds, bananas, and sweet potatoes. My foster Mom is still working on getting me to try more new foods - I cooperate sometimes - mostly just so she keeps trying because it is funny to watch her try and come up with new things I will eat, lol! I am not too sure about these toy things she keeps putting in my cage, but I found one I kind of like, mostly I just grab it and shake it if my foster Mom does something I don't like - but ... (Read More)that's OK - we are just taking time to learn all about each other. I had not been out of my cage in a very long time before coming to my foster home, but my foster Mom just waited me out - after about 4 weeks I finally came out on my own for a taste of some of Gini's BirdieBread Muffins and Cones - I am a just a little scared is all - but obviously very food oriented! Stepping up is a whole other thing though, but my foster Mom goes slow with me and we are both working with the Florida Parrot Rescue Behavior Educator on handling. It will take some time, but I am looking forward to human companionship that does not scare me. I hope that after some progress in the right direction that maybe you can come and meet me and give me the chance that my Foster Mom says I deserve - to be loved and cared no matter what! Animal ID: BabySenegal (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Baby is an 8 year old female Senegal parrot. She's a calm and quiet bird like most Senegal species. She'll sit with you on your knee, shoulder or chest. She adores head scratches and will put her head down to receive the scratch offerings. She is independent and enjoys time with her toys. She is strong willed and demands you respect her space. She will come to you when she wants to spend time with you and if you're in the vicinity will hop quite the distance to get on you. We've nicknamed her The Hopper. She's not picky about food and on a healthy diet. Baby would do well in a calm and quiet house. She would not do well to be adopted by a ... (Read More)home with cats or dogs as they scare her. I wouldn't recommend Baby in a household with young children as she will bite fingers or hands that are not welcomed in her cage. She is jealous of other birds, so no physical interactions with other birds. She would do well as an only bird or someone with small birds that aren't interested in human interaction. Baby in every sense is a great companion parrot. The person she picks will have a very loving relationship with a sweetheart of a girl. Interested in adoption? Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Jake is a very well behaved blue and gold macaw, in fact, he is the most polite bird I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He says 'thank you' before taking a treat, or diving into his pellets. He also makes sure to greet you with a 'hello' or a 'good morning', and says 'goodbye' or 'good night' when I walk out of his room. Jake loves hanging out on my shoulder and nuzzling his face into my cheek. He is also quite a goofy bird while taking a shower, or meeting new people. He really perks up when men are around, and so I think he enjoys the company of both men and women. He has picked up a few words and sounds while staying with his foster ...     Pacolina is a 7 1/2 yr old DNA sexed female Blue & Gold Macaw. She loves to hang out on top of her cage and observe everything that is going on around her. She will need someone with patience to work with her and give her the love she deserves, it will take just the right person, but we know we can find that person for her! Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

'CHICO & CALYPSO' Bonded Cockatiel Pair Chico and Calypso love each other very much, you can tell by the way Chico will play with Calypso's mohawk and Calypso will groom Chico from head to toe. They both prefer to be in their cage, as Calypso is not very good at flying. They do come out from time to time, and take midday strolls on the floor, cooing at each other like 'lovebirds' should.     Hello! My name is Oliver - Ollie is my nickname. I'm around 35 years young and I have been a Red Lored Amazon for as long as I can remember. I was a beach bird and spent most of my days outside even though I have no problem living indoors. I purr like a cat when the vacuum is running and bark like a dog just because I can. I LOVE men and I love sitting on my Foster Dad's shoulder while he's on facebook or while he's walking around the house. I also enjoy sitting high atop my perch observing everything while looking soooooooo good!     Jacob is a sweet and friendly Umbrella Cockatoo. He loves attention and will dance and sing with you or for you! Animal ID: SnowyUmbrella Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Snowy is 36 years old and came into the rescue from a loving home of 25 years. His owners felt they could no longer provide the attention he needs and made the very difficult decision to have him re-homed. Snowy is a very sweet and loving Cockatoo, he loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is a little hesitant at first but with a little nudging will step up for just about anyone, once you pick him up he is a Cuddle Bug! He does get a little jealous of others when his chosen person is around though (he may bite if someone gets too close to him and his chosen person). Snowy makes the sweetest coos and occasionally will laugh with the family, he ... (Read More)is very vocal and will carry on his own funny little conversations.... in his very own language! Like most U2's, he will scream if he feels that he is not getting enough attention. Snowy does pluck his abdominal/chest area but his feathers do still grow back as the follicles are not destroyed. We have not seen him pluck since he came into the foster home, so hopefully they will grow back. He enjoys being outside sitting on the 'front porch swing'. Snowy loves his greens and currently eats Roudybush pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables with some nuts. Please remember that this species of bird can live to be 80 years or older and needs a lot of attention on a daily basis. Snowy will make a great addition to your family and still has many years left to devote to you!!! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BanditBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bandit is a 20-25 year old Blue & Gold Macaw who came to us recently from an emergency intake of several birds out of the same home. While Bandit is obviously missing quite a few feathers (that most likely will not grow back), she has been given a clean bill of health by our vet. She does need more bathes and a better diet to eventually improve the condition of the remaining feathers, but we are working on that J She is loving her new pellet blend diet along with lots of fresh veggies, fruit and nuts. She especially loves bananas! While she is not yet easily handleable, she shows a keen interest in interaction and is showing a lot of ... (Read More)improvement in the short time she has been with us. She has a wonderfully clear speaking voice and can say 'Hello', 'Goodbye' and she quacks like a duck, she is very funny! The previous owner said she likes to bite you and then say 'ouch', but we have not witnessed this behavior while she has been with us. Bandit has huge, soulful eyes and we feel that with time, patience and an owner understanding of macaw behavior, she will become a great companion! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: KizmetHanh's Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Baby

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Kizmet is a four year old Hahn's Macaw. As you can see, when he first came to rescue, he had stripped feather shafts (he didn't pluck, but would actually strip the shaft of the feathers). You can see that he is no longer over grooming as much as he once was and with more time and a continued improved diet, his feather condition will also improve. He also enjoys taking showers with me now! Kizmet is a typical Hahn's, he can be a little pushy and is always trying to get into trouble (tried to eat my pencil, my keyboard, the mouse, the buttons on my shirt, my cup, my phone, the remote, etc... obviously he likes to chew on things and will need ... (Read More)A LOT of toys at all times and to have them changed out often for variety!) but he is a VERY nice bird! Like most macaws, he picks one person in the home he likes and does not want anyone else to handle him. Once he trusts you (he is slow to trust, so you have to be patient with him), he will step up for you and will try to steal food off of your plate! Once he chooses you, he is very trusting, you can do anything with him and he is comfortable with it. He will eat pellets and almonds, but so far doesn't seem interested in fruits and vegetables, unless you hand feed him, the spoiled little brat! Kizmet can talk a little; he says 'Hello' and makes various clicks that he likes you to repeat back to him. He also laughs A LOT! Kizmet does want A LOT of human companionship; he would like to be out of his cage and with you 24/7! Kizmet seemed a little scared of dogs and cats at first, but he has now gotten used to them and seems fine around them, other birds also do not bother Kizmet. Hahn's macaws are the smallest of the Mini macaws, measuring about 12-14 in length, but they have all the sass of the big boys! Hahn's can live to be 40-50 years old, so if you decide to adopt Kizmet, he would be a lifelong companion! (Less)

Animal ID: Navin & BarneyYellow Nape Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello, my name is Navin, I am a Yellow Nape Amazon and this is my best friend Barney, he is an Orange Winged Amazon, and we have to be adopted together. We have been together our entire life (more than 25 years) and we like to talk to each, however I say more English words then he does. He says 'Hi' and he likes to make a kissing sound, but I say 'Hello', 'What cha doin?', and 'You wanna come out?' I also say 'Here Kitty Kitty Kitty', 'Wanna come by me?', 'Whose a pretty bird', 'what's a chicken say? bock-bock-bock-bock-bock!'. I also can make donkey sounds and I have a little tune I love to sing that I like you to finish. My foster Mom says ... (Read More)the funniest thing is when I imitate one side of a telephone conversation and then laugh and laugh! I will step up occasionally and sometimes will sit on your shoulder and nuzzle you some, but Barney doesn't like to, although he is friendly. While we like humans of course, we really prefer each other, but we will interact with you - on our own terms of course! We also each have our separate large cages, but we prefer being in one cage together as long as we are allowed out of cage time for several hours a day, at least. Our other cage is used to take us outside for showers, fresh, air, and sunlight! We both like to eat, but I am more picky than Barney is, which Mom says is weird because she says I am on the chunkier side - I just say I am happy! We are on a fabulously healthy diet though which includes quality pellets, fresh vegetables (and chop!) as well as some fruits, and only healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts for parrots!).     Hi there- my name is Zoey, I am a male Bare-eyed cockatoo. I am a cute, cunning little fellow. My Foster Mom is working with me to improve my diet. I love chop but am having a hard time finding a pellet that I will eat, I prefer junk so she is trying to get me to eat the good stuff. Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Charlie is a sulfur crested cockatoo. He has always been called a 'he' but his sex is unknown as is his species. He is either a small medium sulfur crested or a hybrid of a lesser sulfur and a medium. Life hasn't always been easy for Charlie. In the first home we are aware of he was attacked by a pair of macaws. They destroyed his upper mandible. It has partially grown back, but his sinuses are still exposed and always will be. It hasn't inhibited him though from being active or from eating. He may not be able to crack a walnut, but he readily eats most anything else without assistance. His beak does however require trimming every four weeks ... (Read More)in order to keep from growing too long. If this isn't done it makes eating difficult and will cause it to become thin and brittle as well. Charlie's next home was with a well meaning person who took in more birds than she could handle. Compounded by the owner's poor health he was soon living in unhealthy conditions. The home was crowded and the air toxic. Now Charlie is living in foster care and having a blast. He loves to play with toys that he can stash in his boxes, and will actually unscrew toys hung from the top of the cage to add to his stash. He loves his foster mom. His foster dad? Well, not so much. Other birds? Again, not so much. Actually poor Charlie is rather anti social and seems to strongly bond to one person and one person only. He's extremely smart and is an escape artist. Charlie may not be perfect in appearance or behavior, but if you are looking for a challenge and are female he is worth the effort. To the one he chooses he is very loving and sweet. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: ChampMollucan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real 'velcro' bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound ... (Read More)in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes. Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos. He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs. He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men. Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! Everyone who meets Champ falls in love with his sweet personality. Interested in adoption? Please go to our website to fill out an application and to read our adoption protocols at http://floridaparrotrescue.com/adopt-foster-application/ An avian veterinarian has properly vetted all birds before they are placed up for adoption.
